Autism

Look what I found!!

 Letting it go

There were tons of things in my everyday life that  made me want to smash my cell phone, throw that chair off the wall or just plain walk out. It could be my friends, my co-worker, my spouse, my kid or a complete stranger who flipped me off and whom I just want to get back at may be  later for all that hurt they caused me. But then I thought about it- real hard. Is it really worth all that time and energy that I waste thinking about what they did and how I would ensure that they “see the light”. Does it really turn my world upside down or I just think it does ?  Is the incident going to have a long term impact on my life or is it really about their word over mine or who wins an argument ? Take for instance, my spouse and I fighting over whether we want to take our kid to the pool or the park today and we finally end up going to the pool which is what my spouse had suggested. Is that really that big a deal? Am I really going to be hung up about that and spoil the rest of the time with my family ? My friend forgot to drop her son for a play date we had planned. It sure is a bummer, but then that’s what it is …just a let down. I’m learning to leave it to that and not dwell on it too much. There is no time for that when I have a much bigger fish to fry. Instead, I now use that energy doing something fun that will calm me down.

I'm mom to a beautiful son who is on the Autism Spectrum. I love to share stories and experiences about our journey and learn from other families along the way. Autism has changed our family and our perspective and my mission is to be part of that change that will make the world a more inclusive place for special kids like my son.
