Autism

Look what I found!!

Enjoying the little things

One of the most important things that I learned during my quest for happiness is that nothing is going to work unless I’m at peace with myself. I needed to unwind and to do that I didn’t need a day off from everyone. All I needed was a cup of coffee and a window, from where I could watch everyone else’s life pass by while I relaxed. Over time I learned to ignore the pile of laundry or the sink full of dishes, or the emails that need my attention or the bills that need to be paid. And thought it was hard for me to believe, the world did not come to an end in those 15 mins ! I would highly recommend making music out of the dripping faucet or humming along with your air conditioner or making funny noises as you rock on that squeaky chair, dancing to your favorite music or just taking a power nap…pushing that worry aside ,just for a few minutes. It’s so rejuvenating! I promise, you are going to be hooked once you start doing this. This de-stressing had a cascading effect and I found that I was not on the edge all the time. I started noticing how cute my son sounds when he says “I love you” instead of worrying over why he cannot speak clearly. My son says “Aa wull lee” (I love you) and I would not have it any other way. I’m learning to enjoy the little things. There is joy in that. I’m not expecting to dance and sing my worries away. That’s probably not going to happen with the card that we’ve been dealt with, but what can happen is learning to deal with it in the best possible way and this might just be that thing.

I'm mom to a beautiful son who is on the Autism Spectrum. I love to share stories and experiences about our journey and learn from other families along the way. Autism has changed our family and our perspective and my mission is to be part of that change that will make the world a more inclusive place for special kids like my son.
